Kinski | Show Poster

The Blue Moon is one of the greatest (and oldest) dive bars in all of Seattle. During a typical year (2020 not included) they host hundreds of live music events.

They hired me to make a show poster for their big Kinski show.

The cool thing about designing show posters is that I’m generally given a lot of creative freedom from the people who hire me. The only requirements are to include the basic show info (date, bands, venue, etc.) and to avoid spelling mistakes. Other than that, I get to do pretty much anything I want.

What I like most about this poster is the amount of depth. The pugstronaut is sitting behind the green foreground element, but also way out in front of the backdrop. Makes it seem like you could reach in there and give that stressed out little guy a much needed a shoulder massage.

“I gave Mike free reign on the design. ‘Mike,’ I said, taking a bite of my hoagie (it’s ok, it was during a phone call), ‘I want you to design a poster so beautiful that it makes the Mona Lisa look like a big dumb stupid painting.’

Needless to say, Mike delivered.”
